Tips for wIndow blind repair
Window blinds add character and can complement home decor perfectly, but blinds sometimes break and need repair. Vertical blinds tend to break less often, since the mechanism for moving the blind does not have to support the weight of the blind. However, all blinds can occasionally break and need attention.
Keep spare parts on hand
Keeping spare parts for your blinds makes repairs much easier. Spare parts for your blinds are usually available from the manufacturer. Keeping a small wrench, a screwdriver and some small scissors on hand also make repairs easier. Before attempting to repair your blinds, remove them from the window and place them on a flat surface, along with the clips attached to the bottom that secure the blind strings.
Repair the blind
To begin repair, firstly remove the caps at the base and separate the bar to reveal the ladder tapes and lift cord. Remove the string knots by passing then through the keyhole openings and either cut or undo the knots that sit above the bar. Adjust the loop so that the ends of the tilt cord meet the blind's headbox. Next, ensure that the knot in the lift cord is secure and will not pass through the headbox. Pull back the slats from the ladder tapes and fold over the ends of the replacements tape, and then staple to make a hem. Fold the hem over the bars. Now, remove the knots of the lift cord through the headbox. Feed the tilt cord through the slats and attach the ladder tape to lift the cord to the base bar. Lastly, fasten the equalizing buckle over the adjustment loop and rehang the blind.
