How to Install Window Blinds

Installing your window blinds is not a complicated task; it just requires precision and the ability to use a couple of tools. These instructions are for standard blind assemblies with no customer work required. Follow these simple steps and you are sure to use your newly-installed window blinds in no time.

1. First: Mark screw holes

   Hold the blinds up to the window where you want them installed. This could either mean above the window (outside the window frame), or at the top of the window (inside the window frame). While holding the blinds above the window, mark where you need brackets. Remember the center support bracket! If you are installing your blinds outside the window frame, remember to give yourself 1/4 inch of clearance on either end.

2. Second: Install brackets

   Using an electric drill, begin holes where you need screws. After the holes are drilled, screw in the brackets with a screwdriver. If you are screwing directly into drywall, consider using plugs or anchors for additional support.

3. Third: Install your blinds

   Install the blinds according to the manufacturer's instructions, taking care to leave the cord and twist rod on the outside. The cord is normally hung on the right, and the twist rod on the left.

4. Fourth: Check to make sure your blinds are level

   Use a carpenter's level to make sure your new blinds are level and balanced. If they are not, simply take them down and adjust the brackets accordingly. Once you have adjusted the brackets and re-installed your blinds, check again to make sure they are level. Continue this process until you achieve the perfect balance on your new blinds.
